Art is as Good as Being in Love!

By Karen Saunders

Did you know looking at art releases special feel-good chemicals in your brain, called

dopamines? Researchers have discovered the effect on our brain when we look at art is similar to being in love! I love this idea! We all need to love and feel loved and art can enrich our lives in much the same way. Perhaps this is why each person's response to art is innately personal and the story a piece tells may be different from one person to another.

There is something very satisfying about creating artwork that makes people feel good.

Sometimes art brings out tears or laughter in people, and on very special occasions, both. When people view my work I want them to connect. I want them to smile. Maybe they are thinking of a time they stood looking up at the trunk of a grand old tree or patted the soft nose of their own goofy dog. Making art for and with people that makes them happy makes me happy, too.

Check out the video below about how art makes us happy. Then take some time for yourself today. Look at some art. Look at the sky (nature's art!)! Love someone! Your brain and your body will be glad you did.
